History
For more than 150 years, The Floating Hospital has provided compassionate healthcare to New York City’s most vulnerable families. The organization began as a “fresh-air hospital” aboard ships in the harbor and now delivers comprehensive primary and behavioral healthcare from its land-based clinic in Long Island City, Queens. Two governing bodies—a hospital board and a separate 501(c)(3) foundation board—guide strategy and compliance in an era of increasingly complex healthcare regulations.
Challenge
Until recently, the board relied on paper binders and ad-hoc Google Drive folders. While digital files reduced printing, they created new headaches:
- No auditable record that trustees actually opened or discussed critical compliance policies.
- Fragmented discussion threads buried in email were not secure.
Svetlana Stanarevic—President’s Assistant, Board Liaison, and Grants Coordinator—spent hours chasing confirmations and assembling documentation for HRSA and annual financial audits.
Solution
Boardable offered the right balance of simplicity and governance muscle. Within one onboarding cycle, Svetlana migrated historic files, built the first digital agenda, and invited trustees to the platform. Engagement analytics replaced chaotic email outreach, while secure e-voting and document control created an immutable record of every motion and signature.
A hands-on training session during a live board meeting allowed trustees to explore Boardable in real-time. The intuitive interface won over all trustees, regardless of their technical background, and Boardable’s Help Center resources now handle most day-to-day questions.
“Boardable is incredibly easy—for all members—and it gives us the documentation HRSA wants without extra work.”
– Svetlana Stanarevic, President’s Assistant & Board Liaison
Today’s Operations
Each month, Svetlana opens Boardable’s Agenda Builder, clones a pre-approved template, and drags supporting documents into place for the governing bodies. What once required hours of manual formatting now fits comfortably into a 30-minute block.
Trustees launch Zoom directly from the digital agenda within Boardable, eliminating the need to juggle multiple platforms or locate meeting links. Every interaction creates an audit trail that enhances transparency and accountability. If auditors ask for proof of oversight, Boardable ensures that compliance documentation is not only complete but also instantly accessible.
Looking Ahead
With governance basics streamlined, the next priority is expanding the Foundation Board and activating committee charters inside Boardable.
By adopting Boardable, The Floating Hospital gained not just a board portal but a governance operating system tailor-made for healthcare. Administrators reclaim hours once lost to chasing paperwork, trustees fulfill their fiduciary duties with confidence, and the organization can focus on what matters most—delivering compassionate, life-changing care to New York’s underserved families.
